November is Men’s Mental Health Month. Why do men get their own mental health month? Because even though women are more likely to be diagnosed, men are more likely to deal with their mental illness with drugs, alcohol, or worse, suicide. And so Movember is doing something to further men’s health. First of all, they are encouraging people to grow mustaches to raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate health. And while that is a worthwhile goal, I cannot stand mustaches on my face, nor am I social enough to explain to people why I suddenly have a mustache. However, there is another way they are raising awareness for men’s health, with a MOVEember move goal.
Specifically, they are encouraging people to run or walk 60 miles over the course of the month to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health and suicide prevention. The number 60 is significant because around the world 60 men an hour die by suicide. We need to bring that number down to zero if possible. So I am going to force myself to be more active than usual. I am committing to moving 60 miles over the course of the next month. And I could use your help.
Don’t worry, I will do all the moving (although if you want to make your own Movember commitment, you can go to ex.movember.com and sign up). No, what I need help with is raising money. That is the deal, I will do the moving if you can help me out, and help men’s health out. If you find it in your heart to help me reach my fundraising goal, here is the link.
If you are able to donate anything, thank you so much in advance. If not, thank you for reading and continuing to support this site.
