Self-Care From Nature

Since today is Earth Day, I wanted to take a moment to talk about how nature helps with my self-care, and how it can help with your self-care too.

I consider myself an environmentalist for a number of reasons, but one of those reasons, perhaps one of the most selfish reasons, is the simple pleasure I get out of visiting nature. It allows me to leave the troubles and anxieties of the human world and of human interactions behind. It allows me to clear my head in an almost meditative way.

The challenge I have is that more and more human interaction trickles into these natural areas. Bits of trash left behind, pieces of pollution plaguing an otherwise pristine environment, and a lack of respect in general for the environment. And my hope for Earth Day, and my hope for this post, is to highlight the importance of nature. It is important for my self-care, and can be important for many people’s self-care too (and obviously crucial for the health of our planet).

So that is one of the reasons I care about Earth Day. And a reminder to get out into nature if you need a break from the house during this quarantine, or else just need to add something new to your self-care routine.
